FEEDBACK

Week 5
Research Topic:
- My research topic is a specific research problem; the research topic should be broader. For example: “Visual Elements on Apps for User Experience”

Problem Statements:
- add one paragraph: what do you want to research
- Avoid using statements like ""Food delivery apps (FDAs) represent one of the fastest-growing segments of mobile applications (Statista, 2020a).""
- The reference to (Pongsatorn et al., 2020) can be included in Project 2's Critical Review.
- The introduction is good.

Research Objectives:
- Ensure consistency, such as using ""design elements"" or ""visual elements""; it's recommended to use ""impact.""
- Replace the first objective, ""ordering behavior,"" with ""user experience.""
- Objectives 2 and 3 should align with aspects related to visual elements.

Research Questions:
- Modify the research questions based on the Research Objectives.

Week 6
Problem Statement:
- Use in-text citations without italics.
- Place a full stop after the bracket.
- Avoid spelling out the research details for now to allow time for decision-making.

Research Objective:
- Modify the sentence ""To explore how visual elements in food delivery app user interfaces related to usability challenges faced by restaurant customers"" to ""To explore the relationship between visual elements in food delivery app user interfaces and usability challenges faced by customers.""

- Combine Assignment 1 and Assignment 2 into a single PowerPoint presentation.
- Include titles for both assignments.

Week 6
# Research method is ""survey"" rather than a ""questionnaire"" because a ""survey"" is a method, and a questionnaire is a data collection tool.

What:
- Include ""therefore"" for sentence fluency.
- Mention specific food delivery apps, such as Food Panda, Grab Food.
- Explain the reasons for selecting these apps in the ""Why"" section.

Why:
- Include citations (research articles, research publications and websites.)

Who:
- Specify if there is a specific age group. If not, explain why.
- Support your choice with relevant research findings.

How:
- Use ""The researcher"" instead of ""We.""
- Images can be included in the questionnaire.
- Select up to two of the most important visual elements in food delivery apps (based on extensive reading).

Questionnaire:
- Justify the questions included in the survey.
- Include literature support for some questions.
- Contact Information: Provide Taylor's email address, not a phone number."

Week 9
Google Form:
- Invite Miss Jinchi as a collaborator.
- Manually label the numbers.

Questions:
- Participants are asked to provide reasons for their choice between GrabFood and FoodPanda.
- The 9th question can be removed or replaced with “What other roles do you think colours play in food delivery apps?""
- The questions related to colours for specific food delivery apps can be divided into three sections: one for general questions, one specific to GrabFood, and another specific to FoodPanda.

Week 10
- In addition to colour and typography, you can also include questions about space or layout to ensure sufficient data collection.
- Question eight in Section 3 should be changed to ""layout"" and not fall under typography.
- The text and image placement in questions 9 and 18 needs to be reversed.
- Questions 12 and 21 can be part of Section 6, which covers general aspects of colour and typography.
- In Sections 4 and 5, specify the names of the specific food delivery apps rather than using "these applications."

Week 11
- Some of the answers are quite helpful and the progress is a bit slow

Week 12
When analyzing a specific question with qualitative answers:
- Create a table to organize and present the answers (reduce the font size).
- Share the editor link

# I can start data analysis already

Week 13
- for the presentation, we can create additionally simplify presentation (optional)
- 8 minutes for presentation
- 23-25 slide

Simplify Slide:
- content
- reserach problem (no need problem statement)
- research objective & questions (these are my research objectives and research questions.)# no need to read
- key literatures: key literature 1….(simplify: summary, strengths in point form)
- research method: why choose this
- data analysis: redesign the icon
- reference (don’t have to present)

Week 14
Blog:
- MIB
- full set of slide
- pdf (full set of slide)
- simplify version slide
- presentation
- weekly feedback

REFLECTIONS

Experience:

Assignment 1 (Proposal):
In Week 3, I started feeling lost. I had no idea what topic to choose, and I was more concerned about selecting something I could feasibly achieve. Even though I hadn't begun, I felt like I was doomed. Fortunately, I eventually found a topic that interested me—food delivery apps. The initial weeks were the most challenging as I wasn't accustomed to reading, making the completion of the critical review extremely painful. Among all assignments, I found Assignment 1 to be the most challenging; having a strong start seemed particularly difficult.

Assignment 2 (Critical Review):
Reading, especially research articles, is something I genuinely dislike as I find it tedious. I spent a significant amount of time searching for relevant material, and often, when I finally found suitable research articles, they required purchase. I felt quite frustrated (ʘдʘ╬). However, I gained valuable experience from this assignment, condensing lengthy research articles into concise summaries of a few paragraphs. Although writing the critical review took a considerable amount of time, I believe the real challenge lies in finding suitable research articles.

Assignment 3 (Primary Data):
Honestly, the initial part of Assignment 3 felt the easiest. While devising survey questions took time, having a clear goal made things simpler. The most relaxed week for me was the one when I awaited respondents to fill out the questionnaire, and I actively participated in filling out others' surveys. I thought having 80 respondents was a lot, but to my surprise and delight, I collected responses from 102 participants. During data analysis, with limited experience, I questioned the accuracy of my writing and felt a bit regretful about taking on so many questions.

Observation:
I didn't know how to navigate through the process initially, and I even thought I was doomed at the start. Fortunately, as time went on, I became more accustomed to it, and it became easier. However, I observed a consistent pattern of completing assignments at the last minute, failing to effectively allocate time between leisure and study—a behavior I need to improve. Additionally, Dr. Jinchi provided invaluable assistance. Her feedback has been extremely useful, and I admire her ability to meticulously review our assignments and provide feedback—a task I couldn't imagine doing.

Finding:
The 14 weeks passed quicker than I imagined, and I feel this has been my least favorite module. I'm not particularly fond of research, especially reading other research articles, which I find quite painful. However, I cannot deny that this module has imparted a wealth of knowledge about research. Initially, I didn't understand why research needed a dedicated module for learning. However, later on, I realized that producing a comprehensive research study is more challenging than I had imagined. It requires a considerable amount of time for continuous improvement, and some knowledge cannot be obtained from books; it needs to be gained through practice and experience. Well, this marks a painful end and the beginning of the challenging Design Research Dissertation.
