REFLECTION

Week 1:

This week, our lecturer, Mr. Mike, briefed us on the module, showed us projects done by previous students, and introduced three projects for us to choose from. Each group consists of 5 to 7 people, and no more than 3 individuals from the same specialisation can be in one group. We formed our group and chose the WarisanXR project. After that, we conducted contextual research, including evaluating the product's strengths and weaknesses, its competitors, and more. On Saturday, we visited the National Museum. This learning experience provided us with a deeper understanding of the project, and we created a list of questions to ask the client to address our uncertainties regarding the project.

Week 2:

In the second week, our lecturer arranged a meeting with the client along with another group to understand the client's needs. During the meeting, we asked the prepared questions and learned more about the details and requirements of the WarisanXR project, such as the duration of the MR exhibition, the number of AR glasses, and the expected number of visitors, among other things. Through this meeting, we realised that our focus on the project had previously been misplaced; we should not concentrate on content design but rather on user experience. This realisation provided us with a clearer direction. This meeting also highlighted the importance of communication, we need to understand the client's needs and feedback to ensure that our design aligns with their expectations.

Week 3:

In Week 3, our lecturer provided valuable feedback on our user personas, emphasising that they should include a comprehensive range of aspects, such as needs, frustrations, user demographics and others. I realised that a well-constructed user persona should represent various individuals within the target group, rather than focusing too narrowly on specific traits. After receiving the feedback, we revised our user personas, researching online data to support these changes. This experience highlighted the importance of basing our design process on thorough research to create user-centered solutions for diverse audiences in future projects.

Week 4:

In Week 4, we wrapped up our revisions on the user personas and created survey questions for each one. After getting some helpful feedback from our lecturer, we tweaked the questions a bit and then got started on distributing the survey. I sent it out to my parents, friends, and classmates, which was great because we ended up with 141 responses in total. Once we had all that data, we dove into the analysis part. This whole process really emphasised how valuable it is to get a variety of opinions. By looking through the responses, we gained some solid insights into our target audience, which helped us refine our user personas even further.

Week 5:

In Week 5, our client visited with AR glasses for us to try, which was a new experience for me. Although it felt exciting, the glasses were heavier than expected and not very comfortable for those who wear regular glasses. I also saw a sample volumetric video that might be used in the exhibit. The client was very helpful, answering our questions, which gave me a deeper understanding of the project and clarified the client’s needs. This experience enriched my understanding of MR technology and user-focused design, essential for future projects.

Besides that, we summarised our data analysis, and I discovered that Miroboard has an AI tool to help with summarising, which was a huge time-saver. However, it still required us to double-check for accuracy. After understanding the data, each of us brainstormed five ideas, but some were too ambitious, so we revised them.

Week 6:

This week, we focused on advancing the design process using the Miro board, where we created user journeys for the three personas. Each team member contributed five creative ideas, which we collectively evaluated to determine the most promising options. I participated in discussions and brainstorming sessions, which helped us refine the direction of the exhibition.

Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of how user journeys help visualize the needs and expectations of different personas. I also learned the importance of teamwork and how combining diverse perspectives can lead to innovative solutions. These insights have strengthened my skills in collaborative design and user-centered thinking, which will be valuable in future projects and professional scenarios.

Week 7:

This week, I contributed to the preparation of the proposal presentation slides, focusing on the floor plan, material selection, and storyboard content. We collaborated as a team to integrate research findings, conceptual ideas, and a cohesive storyline into the presentation. I also provided input on the photo booth design and key visuals to ensure consistency with our theme.

Through this process, I gained valuable insights into organizing and presenting ideas in a clear and engaging way. It was a rewarding experience to see how our individual contributions came together to create a professional and cohesive presentation. I also learned the importance of attention to detail and effective communication in teamwork.

This experience has helped me improve my skills in project coordination and visual storytelling. These skills will be essential for future projects, especially when designing and presenting creative concepts in both academic and professional settings.

Week 9:

This week, I worked with my team to improve our project based on feedback from the lecturer and client. Since there were no classes, we used the time to update our designs and plan the next steps. The feedback suggested making changes like redoing the floor plan to improve crowd movement, adding more interactive AR features, and looking at TeamLab for inspiration to make the exhibition more exciting. We also talked about improving the virtual guide, making the storyline more interesting, and simplifying the photo booth design by adding AR features and removing unnecessary elements.

From this, I learned how important it is to balance creative ideas with practical design to meet the needs of both users and clients. It also taught me how important it is to include interactive elements and cultural themes to make the exhibition more engaging.

This experience helped me get better at using feedback to improve designs and solving problems with a user-first approach. These skills will be helpful for future projects, especially when designing interactive and fun experiences.

Week 10:

This week, I worked on the floor plan and UI design for the exhibition. I focused on measuring and planning the stations, aiming for 2–3 meters per station, with a preference to start with 3 meters to ensure enough space for visitors. For the UI design, I worked on creating layouts that are clear and user-friendly, aligning with the overall theme of the exhibition.

Through this process, I learned how important it is to balance functionality with creativity, especially when working on detailed measurements and designs. This experience helped me improve my ability to plan spaces effectively and create designs that enhance the user experience.

These skills will be useful for future projects, as they taught me how to approach tasks with both practicality and creativity, ensuring the designs are engaging and efficient. Moving forward, I will continue refining the floor plan and UI design while collaborating with the team to create a cohesive exhibition experience.

Week 11:

This week, I worked on UI design with Simon, focusing on refining the visuals and interactivity for the exhibition. I made sure the UI design matched the storyline and cultural themes to create a cohesive experience. We also applied feedback to improve the design, ensuring it looked appealing and worked smoothly. Through this process, I realized how important it is for UI to enhance the audience’s engagement and connect with the overall narrative. This experience has helped me understand how storytelling and design can work together, which will be useful for future projects.

Week 12:

This week, we worked on refining the spatial design and enhancing the overall visual planning for the exhibition. As a team, we used camera simulations to visualize what visitors would experience and marked positions on the floor to guide their movement and interaction. We also discussed using different types of stages to ground the elements and prevent them from appearing to float. My individual task is on UI and key visuals, so I modify the UI based on feedback such as adding a marker on the floor and adding the prompt text for the scene. This collaborative process helped me better understand how to create a cohesive and immersive experience.

Week 13:

This week, our group worked on refining the exhibition design based on feedback. We focused on ensuring consistency in the lantern visuals, improving the prominence of the background flowers, and integrating projection or AR features into the pedestal. Adjustments were also made to the UI for better readability, such as increasing text size and enhancing clarity. I continue to work on key visuals once the assets are ready.

This process taught me the importance of precision in visual and interaction design, highlighting how small adjustments can significantly improve the overall user experience. Moving forward, I will apply this understanding to create designs that balance functionality with aesthetics, ensuring every detail contributes to a seamless narrative.

Week 14:

This week, I continued working on the key visuals and UI design for our project. I finalized the mock-ups and helped adjust the photo booth frame design to align with the overall art direction and enhance user engagement.  This process shows the importance of maintaining visual consistency and integrating feedback to refine designs. I learned how small adjustments can enhance the overall user experience. These experiences have strengthened my ability to create visually appealing and functional designs, skills that are vital for future projects in both academic and professional contexts.
